Beta! Please see the beta message below. Trouble with bounties? We've identified a problem where Dag Durnick's magic popup name selector is unable to process player targets whose names have a capital letter anywhere after the first letter. Have no fear, for there is a kludge available. Go to Hall of Fame and copy the text of your target's name to paste into Dag's screen and you should be fine. Daily News! Blessed Event of the Decade! Middleclaw, God of one day kills and the Goddess Aphrodite were joined together in joyious matromony. The Tower of Pain The final and largest dungeon in Gandane is actually a tower, and it's finished. This is the last Gandane town and last Gandane dungeon I plan to create for the game. This is also the last mod for the entire game for a whlie--by me. If anyone else knows how to program in PHP and wants to try your hand at modifying the game, let me know. The players have plenty of ideas, and you're bound to have some of your own. If no one is interested in writing mods, I hope there is enough surprises still awaiting most of you to keep you entertained for some time to come. It has been a pleasure writing mods for the Trollhalla version of LOGD, and I hope to write more in the future. But for now other matters in real life are taking priority. --Admin Just a friendly reminder... ...to please send your requests for admin help first to Xlorp. If Xlorp can fix the problem, it will probably be quicker than what I will get to it. My free time these days has been severely limited due to my attending physical therapy for chronic achilles tendonitis. Xlorp will pass the problem on to me if necessary. Thanks for your understanding at this time. --Admin All in the land rejoice; we have another helping hand! Xlorp has graciously agreed to take on some of the admin duties for LOGD. One of the most experienced players of the game (second perhaps only to Harrgh), Xlorp is an excellent addition to the admin staff. I will still be performing all code changes, but some problems that arise do not require code changes, they merely require database tweaks. So, if you need admin help, feel free to send your request first to Xlorp; if it turns out to be a coding problem, Xlorp will pass it on to me. Many thanks to Xlorp for his help in making LOGD a better experience for all its players. --Admin A touch up to Gandane's dungeons To those of you that are able to reach Gandane, let me just say that you can now see further than just the square you're in when exploring the dungeons in Gandane. Explore one now to see what I'm talking about. --Admin A little help from a friendly neighborhood proofreader NuluTchaoshou has been reporting all manner of spelling errors, so I've asked him to help clean up the database. He's now got some limited admin privileges that gives him access to the database to make corrections. So we will soon be seeing fewer spelling errors in the game. Not all spelling errors are in the database, unfortunately, as some reside in the code. We'll deal with those later, perhaps. Nulu also has the ability to add new taunts or creatures. So, if you start seeing some new variety, or if you have an idea for a new creature or taunt (those things that are said when someone is defeated and it makes it in the news), please send them to NuluTchaoshou. Thanks again to Nulu for taking on this task. Skill use bug finally fixed! More than one of you have reported a problem with how skill uses did not increment correctly when leveling up. It was Eee-gore that gave me the critical bit of info I needed to fix the problem without spending hours trying to figure it out. So Eee-gore gets 100 dontation points. I do still have a number of other reports from some of you, and when I get around to acting on them, I'll give donation points for them, too. So little time... --Admin Some code changes There have been a few code changes. I've tested the code, but if I missed anything and you find a bug, please report it. It might be worth donation points. Note that the code changes have to do with the caverns... Vera is overstocked on gems... ...and she's having a sale. The Most Beneficial LOGD Kindred is... Well, it's fitting that Troll was found to be the most beneficial kindred on the Trollhalla version of LOGD. Followed closely by Ariel and Leprechaun. Elf came in fourth, I'm assuming placed there by those players that find the caverns too dangerous. The other kindreds--Human, Orc, Faerie, and Dwarf--may need a tune up to put them on par with the other kindreds. If I find the time, I'll see what I can come up with to make the sub-par kindreds a little more appealing. Thanks to all that participated in the voting! Favorite Kindreds Poll continues Well, I thought if I left it up for just a little while longer, maybe the tie between Troll and Ariel would be broken. No such luck. So... I'm going to let you cast a vote for your favorite kindred pitting Leprechaun, Troll, and Ariel against each other. Leprechaun (4 - 23.5%) Ariel (5 - 29.4%) Troll (8 - 47.1%) Favorite Kindreds Poll The votes are in, and we've got our top 4 kindreds: Troll, Ariel, Leprechaun, and Elf. So now we'll move on to the second round of voting. Which two kindreds will emerge as the top two? Favorite Kindreds Polls Just for kicks, I'm running a Favorite Kindreds tournament-style poll. I've paired off the kindreds against each other, and would like you to vote for one from each pair. Vote for the kindred that you think gives a character the best benefits. Next week we'll vote for the top two out of the top four vote getters this week. The week after that, we'll vote on the top two kindreds, to determine the most beneficial kindred of them all. Even if you haven't played all of the kindreds, you should still feel free to vote, because it's all just for fun. This week's polls are waiting below. Thanks - Admin Donation Points For those of you that might not have seen my wall posting in the Inner Sanctum, I'm posting it here, too. Anyone playing LoGD that donates money to Trollhalla can get donation points for the Hunter's Lodge, even if you don't donate through LoGD, as long as I know about it. Thus, Gimor is now entitled to an additional 1000 donation points in LoGD. Gimor, let me know which characters you want those points to go to. And it's ok if you split it up amongst multiple characters--if you're running multiple characters. If any of the rest of you play LoGD and donate to Trollhalla to Khenn directly, ask Khenn to let me know what your Troll name is and how much you've donated, and I'll contact you to find out which character(s) to give donation points to. And as far as I'm concerned, you can even give donation points to the characters of other players, if you want. And while we're on the subject of donating for LoGD: If you are planning on making multiple donations, even if they are for different characters, Trollhalla sees more of that donation if you make one larger donation instead of many small ones--if you're using a credit card to make your donation. PayPal's fee for a $1.00 donation made by credit card is $0.33, which means a third of your donation goes to PayPal. The fees are proportionately smaller the larger the amount you donate. So, instead of making three $1.00 donations, Trollhalla would see more of that $3.00 if you donated it as one payment of $3.00. If you want three characters to benefit equally from that $3.00 donation, just say so in the message that you send with your donation. Correction to previous MOTD It is stated in the previous MOTD that elves have a lowered ST in the new game area. This was true at the time the MOTD was written, because my T&T rule book was packed, and I was trying to go off memory about the kindred modifiers. The code has been changed so that the modifier for ST for elves is now 1, so they are no longer penalized. Thanks to BaalDwinn for pointing out this inconsistency. -Admin Info about Stats for T&T Characters in this Game For those of you that have made it to the new game area (the town of Mahgreg in the world of Gandane), here is some interesting info regarding how your stats are effected by a change in the kindred of your character. Each T&T character has a set of "basic" stats, a set of "modified" stats, a set of "reputation" stats, and a set of "game-play" stats. The basic stats are determined by a "taro" roll (triples add and roll over). Once generated, your basic stats never change (unless you discard your amulet). Your modified stats, however, vary depending on what kindred you're playing at any given time. For each kindred, there's a set of multipliers that are applied to your basic stats to determine your modified stats. This calculation is performed anew for each new game day that you enter the T&T game world. So if you're playing a human one day and a troll the next, you should see a remarkable increase in your ST and CN, but a lowering of IN and PO, for example. After the modification to your basic stats is performed and your modified stats are determined, you add your reputation stats to determine your game-play stats. Your reputation stats start at 0, and increase as you choose when you spend earned reputation points at the Guild to purchase permanent reputation points. (It's permanent reputation points that are displayed in the hall of fame in the Reputation column.) So, if you have 2 permanent reputation, then you have a total of 2 points assigned to reputation stats. For an example, let's say you're playing an elf. Elves have a lowered ST and CN, so as you play the elf and earn reputation, you may decide to spend the reputation to increase your ST and CN. Let's say you earned 6 reputation and put 3 points on CN and 3 points on ST. If you then change your kindred to dwarf, the net effect would be to dramatically increase your CN and ST, but lowering everything else. If we assume an average base stat of 10, in this example your elf would have had a modified CN and ST of 8, which each would have been raised to 11 by the addition of 3 points each of reputation stats. When you switch over to dwarf, what would happen? Instead of the base ST and CN stats of 10 being lowered to 8, they each would be doubled to 20, and then increased by 3 for reputation. Thus, in this example, by simply changing kindred, you'd see a change in your CN and ST from 11 each to 23 each. The other attributes, however, would each drop, almost as dramatically. The gist of all this is that if you aren't happy with your T&T stats, you can change them, sometimes dramatically, by simply changing kindred. There are 8 kindreds to choose from (plus Blob, which gets no benefits in the T&T world), so you should be able to find one that gives your T&T stats just the right multipliers to make your T&T character at least playable. If switching kindreds does not work, however, you can always discard your amulet in Mahgreg. If you ever get another one, your base stats will be generated again, and you can start over from scratch. Hope you find this interesting and helpful. -Admin The New Game Area -- Expanded The new game area, where your character transforms into a T&T character, has been expanded. Some features have been tweaked, new features have been added, there is now a dungeon that you can stumble into, and another town awaits you if you can get through the dungeon and across the swamp beyond. Once you make it to the new town, try to find Baramor (the guy from the Dark Horse Tavern in LOGD that can activate amulets). If you run into any problems in the T&T game area, please let me know. -Admin Getting to the new game area There is now a slightly easier way for characters that have at least 10 dragon kills to get to tne new game area. I'm not saying what it is, but I will say that it doesn't require you to sacrifice a creature. -Admin The Return of the Admin I'm finally back online, and ready to add more features to the game! Have you found the new area yet? If you have at least 5 dragon kills, make sure you go to the garden and search the hedges. You'll learn there the steps you have to take to earn an Amulet. After you get an Amulet, you need to get it activated, which can be done at the Dark Horse Tavern, even though the stranger there doesn't actually tell you that he's activating it. After it's activated, go to the Veteran's Club (if you're a Veteran, you should know where this is). You'll then be able to access the new game area. -Admin Beta! For those who might be unaware, this website is still in beta mode. I'm working on it when I have time, which generally means a couple of changes a week. Feel free to drop suggestions, I'm open to anything :-) Commentary: Refresh |
